Street Outlaws

Street

Tom,
You are on to something with the promotion. I have a good customer that is buddies with "Chief". He was at one of their filming and was wearing a nice leather jacket, Earnhardt edition. He was ask to take it off, even if he was out of camera shot. If he didn't have another jacket to wear they "Chief" would provide one. Something is going on there with contracts and advertisement.
As for why they draw more attention. I think it is because of promotion and they are available to the media. NHRA, in all their wisdom tie up all rights to media coverage and stifle any promotion an individual or company can do. NHRA is so afraid someone else will make some money they can't get their hands on. I think everyone knows which box the problems start in (and the motovation) and there is very little that can be done about it.

I get Mav TV here on cable and they show Aussies drag racing. Isn't that Lucas? Maybe there is room for some comp/sportsman only series with them. Let NHRA off the hook.

It's the story!!!!!! they race on a private road / airport now, It takes them 14 seconds to run a 1/8 mile because of editing.

They have a viewership of over 5 million now, 10 times as much as NHRA.

It is the drama that people want to see. Reality TV is where the money is at.

But Where is Orange County Choppers now. Rich but nothing to do

You have to look at it from a marketing perspective for the sponsor. If I give 4 or 5 guys a set of tires or shocks or whatever and they have my sticker on their car or wear one of the 10 t-shirts I give them, I can reach millions of people each week for next to nothing. That exposure will sell thousands of dollars of product. Its a big return on a small investment. That same sponsor will have to fork over 10's of thousands of dollars to NHRA to park a rig on the manufacturers midway, pay employees to be on site, travel expenses etc at a NHRA event to showcase their product to 15-20k people per week.
It has taken some time but the guys on that show are now being paid to show up at race tracks and events. They are a big billing "As seen on Street Outlaws".
If that show has done anything, it has increased the exposure for drag racing. Increased exposure leads to increased sales by manufacturers which leads to increased payouts for racers. Like them or hate them, it does help all racers.

So what about a Comp racing show that merges Pinks & Street Outlaws.
- Each show has an 8 car field running for a winner takes all purse.
- Self police the legality of cars pre-show, no cheating accusations.
- Use varying classes to show contrast, do an overview on each car.
- Random pairings drawn, then drivers negotiate handicaps in car lengths.
- Translate car lengths to tenths for use on tree.
- Side bets on each pairing to raise stakes and allow smack talking.
- Run 1/8 mile on strip with instant green tree, whoever takes stripe wins.
- Red light is loss, cross centerline is loss, first is worst.
- Use on vehicle cams & data logging to enhance the show.
- Interviews focus on performance & how they won.
- Winners advance to season finale big shootout.

that's why it would not work people that watch that show want heads-up racing and no track.

Have you been to a race lately to watch, at most bracket races and a lot of Divisional any more there lucky to get 40 people in the stands most don't want to watch Drag racing. MY self I would not pay to just go to the track to watch anymore. When we do take the car out I don't spend any time watching other cars just the ones that are in front of us. Must be the getting old :D

That would go over huge. I promise you. The attraction for street outlaws is no dial in. Comp already has that, but no one knows they exist.

If it stays popular, you will see shirts from redbull, beer, and the rest or have the blocked out like I have seen in other reality shows

Might want to recheck those rating numbers, nowhere near 5 million.

Mustang on slicks went into spectators last night at street races in Chatsworth,Ca.......2 killed 1 injured....not good.:(

You are correct, except street outlaws 2.4 million this past monday while NHRA only had 5 hundred thousand with a suprime slot

So they have almost 5 times more viewers

If you have different numbers please post them.
