I have owned BOTH!
It was my favorite car when Hurley owned it, and it still is!
Tom Snyder's Pappy's Pride A/A
Hurley Blakeney's (Mark Wolfe) Silent Thunder AA/AT
Bob Phelp's '63 Vette that Volpe won the US Nats in. I think it was AA/A
Vinnie Deceglie's '63 Vette A/A (the truck was pretty cool too)
Tom and Merideth Haner's A/D driven by David Cook Jr.
Bob Book's A/D
Rick and Dick Hord's Yellow AA/A or BB/A Vette I saw for the first time at Indy in either 1996 or 2000
Steve Matusek's Aeromotive BB/AT Mustang
Buddy Ingersoll's Buick I was a real youngster when I saw him run but I never forgot how cool it was.
Those are my favorites. Every other car that rolls through the staging lanes during a comp eliminator qualifying or elimination round is a close second!
429 K/AA Old Dude
Rick Hord's yellow and purple "Maximum Effort" vette that ran AA/A was my all time favoritve... that thing had photographers hiding behind the wall.
My dad's A/SR roadsters were good hot rods too. The first one (owned by Norm LaRiccia) was an animal... went 5.03 to the 1/8th in 1997 at Richmond which would have been a mid 7.90 run if you couldnt hit your index in qualifying... at the time the record was 8.07.
His yellow roadster was a good lookin ride... the original of what Vinny has now.. by the end it was bad to the bone... Barely missed being the first roadster in the 7's with a 8.002 record run at E-town.
I always like Jonathan Aloisio's Camero E/SM... that thing would stand on the bumper
Pat Ross current ride is slick... looks like it just rolled off Bickel's floor and it gets with it too
Always been a fan of Hazlett's "Purple Haze" B/A... you wanna talk about wheel speed?
Larry Pritchett's red and silver Olds with the 400 in it (which I believe was D/SM at the time) was stout... It kind of sounded like a mini mountain motor car going through the gears and it would walk away from you in the back half
Obviously hundreds of other cars come to mind but these were the first few that popped in
Fav Comp CARS
Charlie Smith A/A '23 T "Plain Vanilla" Div4 1964 (1st comp car I ever saw)
Dick Shoryer (sp) D/A Vette "Shoryers Destroyer" Div3
Sam Gianino (sp) D/A Anglia Div3
Don Carlton B/A Dodge Colt Div3 "Rod Shop"
Ray Martin D/A Vega "Baytown Missile" Div4
Back in the old day, most all cars had names.
Times were simpler then.
assistant, to the assistant, to the assistant, crewman.
Garley Daniel's C/SM 67 nova, or Ken Reich Wheeler Dealer 67 C/SM
Pretty cool comments.....
Dave Hughes C/SM nova, Al Masottos's A/SM, Rick Voegelin's project A/SM camaro, and every other modified class that moved to comp eliminator, we should all write a chapter for a very large book, it would be a best seller!!
Have to go with my home town heroes of Ron Neff, vette or Jolly Rancher B/ED, and then Tom Snyders Pappy's Pride.
As a kid remember a black and gold 68 Camaro of Tony Wro????? High winding, always neat to watch
Steve Woods supercharged hemi Prefect in the 70"s - I think he won Pomona twice
Jerry Arnold's 32 Bantam E/EA
Joe Ficca's E-Town and Indy winning A/ED - put Comp Eliminator on the map for me!
Also enjoyed Stephen Cultrera's F/A Firebird - gorgeous paint job
Tony Grasso's Oldsmobile (ran a few different classes, no?)
and Bob Meloni's B/A Beretta
Mine will always be Pappy's Pride. Well and my dads 58 Corvette F/G which has actually been completely put back together by a gentleman in Minnesota
Speaking of the old days. Pretty cool story here!
