16 volt Battery

Any one have any experience with the XS Power S-1600 light weight 16 volt AGM battery. I run a SBC in an altered in the T/D class with no alternator. Engine is normally aspirated 434 CI 16 to 1 compression and the car has a MSD 10+ ignition, trans brake, shifter solenoid, and delay box. My old 16-V battery (Lifeline) has died and the 12 to 14 pound weight savings of this battery would be cool if it had enough grunt.

I use the S-1600 battery and have had no trouble except it went dead when it sat for a while. So know I leave it on the charger all the time and ocansionaly it will turn on the charger and recharge by itself and then life is good

XS 16V stuff is really good. I have also had good luck with the Rock 16V stuff. The Rock is a little more specific in the charger department or so they say. They use the Moroso charger (16/12) They just have it relabeled for Rock. No problems to report with XS though.

That being said, the entire batter industry is not what it used to be. Years ago you could run a Turbo Start for years with no problem. Not really the case anymore. I usually replace after 2 years no matter what and then rotate the old one to spare position.

I stock both.

An old friend of mine (Rob Harrison) turned me on to a step-up voltage regulator to be used with a 12 volt system and thus eliminating the $2000.00 star wars space 16 volt batteries and the moon/mars chargers. I use a $90.00 wheel chair lightweight battery and step up the voltage. As long as you have a 9 volt input to the regulator you are good to go. Rob, did I ever thank you for the info?
