AH/SM 9.10 Index Proposal

The man (the legend) that just posted before you has had Jason Line build his engines for the last 6 or 7 years (?), correct me if I'm wrong, Bucky.....and he has been very competitive the last few years at Indy.

Westcott ran 8.22 at the Open at South Georgia in November, 2010. Gary Wolkwitz also held the record at 8.21 (set also at SGMP) in 2015.

Funny thing is, though, trying to use those runs as a benchmark for where the index should be. If there had been comp cars present at those particular races, .8 under would've probably only been middle of the pack....

Not judging, just the facts.

Wescott ran a 8.38 & 8.39 at Indy in 2012.

Wescott ran an 8.22 at Div 2 NO race in 2010
Daniels ran an 8.28 at Reading in 2011
Hard ran an 8.26 at the Dutch in 2012
Wolkwitz ran an 8.31 at a Div 1 race in 2013
Wolkwitz ran an 8.28 at the Dutch in 2014
Wolkwitz ran an 8.21 at a Div. 1 race in 2015
Hess ran an 8.28 at a Div. 1 race in 2016
Daniels ran an 8.22 at the Gators in 2017
Wolkwitz ran an 8.30 at the Gators in 2018

*Edit - Middle of the pack at Gainesville in 2017 was -.72. Daniels would have been -.53 and would have qualified #15 of 18 cars.

Eight tenths under would never be in the middle of the pack not even in mineshaft air. Maybe .65 under but never .8. That would always lead the pack. Comp is pretty much leveled out. Sixty five to seventy under will be your normal leader now days. Summer time it could be high fifties.

The problem with this chart is that is shows how comical the 9.10 proposed index would be also. That would be way too fast for a "new" Comp class by too many people.
 
FYI. The Hemi index was changed yesterday to 8.95. I'll keep my personal take on this to myself.

Thanks Art. I really like Comp and this is what me and my brother do for all our other time other than work+family... so I'm really a fan of the class being fair+fun+growing so that it remains in the billing for a long time. I felt like the Hemi index was bad at first go, proposed some data to get some racers/NHRA thinking about it, and I'm glad NHRA revised it to get it better.

But in reality, other than helping Pancake run his car, I really don't have a dog in that fight. I don't drive an AH/SM. So this is as far as my effort goes! Now..... time to put our dragster back together for when we start rollin' in D3.

Interesting thread.. I say that because I just had this conversation with Vinny "Hey Yo" Barone this week..

NOOOOOOOO!!.. HEY YO VINNY is not coming back too soon...

We didn't do all the research that some have, BUT, went off our old timer's knowledge of what we see those cars running on average.. while one or two are actually fast, most seem to be in the low 8.50 range on average, maybe high 8.40's, depending on track and weather..

With that being said, it would easily be considered FAIR for NHRA to go with a 9.05, or even a 9.10, index for AH/SM.. that would put the "average" teams at .55 to .60 under.. and in Comp today, there is nothing unfair about that..

Those teams who happen to be fast, will have to worry about index, just like the rest of the fast guys in Comp... just sayin'..

OK Raymond, since I seem to have the power to give it away, maybe I should take it away too.. howzabout anyone who consistently runs -.72 or faster, loses .05 off the index??.. some classes need a better index, while some classes need less index.. BUT we are where we are.. NHRA give backs caused it.. their intentions may have been good, BUT not all classes needed it.. just sayin'..

Unfortunately, the PI system really isn't the fix... and I supported the PI system in the beginning..

HEY ART!!.. got yourself a good shoe there.. and he has good people...
