Doing some bench racing and coming up with ideas to increase participation in Comp.
The main reason I bring this up with the problems Prostock is having I would like to see comp stay around
My latest ideas is remove personal index and CIC and go to a weight based system.

So after qualifying field is set, if more than 1/2 the cars are not .50 under or more it is considered a non mineshaft race. During eliminations all racers will run off the class index. If racer in a class goes more than .50 under index during eliminations only he will be hit with a permanent weight penalty of 10lbs for every .01 faster than .50 under. This will be permanent for that racer. Once a racer has had to add a total of 100lbs to their car the class index will then be adjusted.

Mine shaft rule would be if more than 1/2 the cars run more than .50 under in qualifying then weight penalty would be in effect at .55 under.

This does a couple things, everyone will know their class index, no ones will be different. It takes the CIC out of the equation during eliminations. Heads up runs will be off index with weight penalties still in effect.
Also will be easier for NHRA to enter into Computer timing as indexes will be set.

How about this idea. We run off of one index for all classes ... dragsters/altereds/V8/turbo...etc. And we calculate a weight break for each competitor based on personal index/permanent index/etc. It would be like the worlds strangest Super Gas race.

A lot of guys are allready racing with there limited amount of weight that NHRA will allow for there respective class. So adding and taking off weight would just mess with everyone’s setups and the scale guys would not have it together. I believe we should have more fullout races vs racing to 1000’ foot! In eliminations, , race to -600 and then take personal for the race, -650 would take permanent and -700 would take class index?!?! Just a thought that I know won’t change

Roger, Heres a novel idea. If your so interested in comp car counts how about racing D1 comp again! Just a thought...
When personal index was implemented Bob and Tony decided to run Top dragster. They may come back if personal index was taken away. racing was taken away

My personal insight also is, one of the ramifications of the implementation of the personal index system is all a driver has to do to get a tenth back is switch cars. So just another benefit to multi car teams. I have seen many cars in division 1 take advantage of this rule, some not even multi car teams, just put a different driver in the car and pick up a tenth?

If you want to have races to the stripe don't take index from the round loser. The CIC will take care of itself then.
That’s an interesting idea. I’d like to hear racer’s thoughts on that. The only thing I could see is playing the super class game of spiking the brakes to “turn someone loose” being dangerous.

I would hate to have to add weight to my car. It takes a long time to get it to where it works right and then adding even 10 lbs screws up the setup.

Two things I wish comp would do, a pro tree and take .50 off all the indexes so that a "good" run is now right at your index. It would make it SOOOO much easier for the fans to understand and would not affect the comp racers at all. Going to a pro tree would reduce redlights and therefore there would be more racing to the stripe and the indexes would start to fix themselves to where a .60 under run was a REALLY good run.. Ok, I'm done dreaming. Back to work...

In comp it would. In bracket racing it just means you let them get there first.
I know. I was trying to make a point that turning someone loose to avoid a CIC penalty was very costly. I'm not sure I'd ever take a loss hoping someone else would get the penalty. If they have skills they can play the finish just like us bracket boys and hand you a loss while avoiding the CIC penalty..

I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying. People take losses to avoid CIC at every race.

So a winner would be penalized but that looser is not?? Sounds kinda puss ass to me. Maybe the looser went further under the index but cut a shitass light. But it’s cool he lost but his index is ok?? Clark Smiley

We ran a race this year at noble to the eighth mile due to timing issues and the racing was pretty good you just ran to the stripe every run 35 under was where you started getting cic. I'm not suggesting running eighth mile but if the indexes were reduced to where 40 or 50 under was a badass run you would see the same type racing to the quarter mile.

Go back to Mark Wolfe's suggestion , take 50 off the indexes ,go to a Pro Tree to reduce red lights,,,,,START THERE
