Racers,

to achieve our performance goal of 4.60 ET range in our 1550 pound [with driver] altered we need to make 880 or so horsepower.

There are so many choices it is overwhelming. I need to get with an experienced cylinder head person who can guide me with the correct choice.

The engine will be a single Dominator on gas and needs to make big power between about 7200 - 8400 RPM.

Can you guide me to the correct cylinder head or engine builder person.

Your help and thoughts are appreciated.

Thank You,

Larry Woodfin

Craig, we have the resources to build an all out piece if choices are made wisely.

I want to learn what heads will give the performance I want. After learning my lessons I will make an intelligent choice based on expected performance potential. While cost will be considered, it is only one part of the choice.

Talk to Matt at MBE and you might consider some SB2.2 take offs. He might have some but he will steer you to the best ones. You can find some really nice 400+ cfm stuff complete with rockers and intake for around $4000. On a 420 it will make 900 pretty easy. My 399" is way north of that power number with some massaging by MBE. Single 4 from Book on Q-16. I do twist it a bit higher than 8400 though. I could run it at 8400 and still make what you are looking for. The power curve is super wide.

hey straight shooter i have a 421 18degree what size valve would you recommend ,i have 2.180s now and they go to 377
@800lift 250ex @800. would i see i difference with a 2.25 and shrink the exh to 1.550 from 1.600"

I'm no head guy but I do know a very little about the concepts. I think that would slow you down. It takes a lot of bore to utilize a valve that large otherwise it will be shrouded and end up flowing less. My 399 has 2.18 intake and flows 419 cfm 4.185" bore. Your best bet is to call a real head shop like CFE, MBE to name a couple.
