Grains is a term you will find quite often in HVAC. From what I have learned it is used in comparing qualities of a AC pump. I have the formula for it somewhere, once I find it I will post it. Then you will be able to fully understand how the independent variables effect the grain measurement.
Until a few years ago, grains was only heard in Top Fuel pits. Now you will hear PS teams fretting over the grains. Will mentions that they can get away with more timing in their Blown Alky cars with a high grain. When I was working on the fuel team, we would chase grains to keep the power level consistent. PS teams keep an eye on it to adjust the timing to prevent detonation.
