This year will be my Fathers 51st consecutive year attending the US Nationals as both a spectator and competitor, He Also is one of the major driving forces on the Canadian Leaded fuel issue, which keeps NHRA and IHRA racing in Canada. While talking to Phil Burkhart he mentioned it, Phil seemed very receptive to giving him some press about it. NHRA called today and Bud(my Father) told them that he didn't really want any recognition for this but it would be nice to have a parking pass for Indy so He didn't have to walk so far( Dad just turned 70 years old) or even maybe a Tower pass to watch the races and talk further with NHRA about the leaded fuel issue. An was told by NHRA that "well we can't just give those passes out to just anyone that wants one you know" There exact words. You have got to be kidding me. My Father has never been one to seek fame for what he does, but thats just wrong..

They should give him a pass for anywhere he wanted . Yes that was bad on there part . A person buying a ticket for 51 years is not just anyone .

Steve, I don't know you or your Father, however if one of you will call me I will see that your Father gets credentials at Indy. I will be there on Wednesday night and can be reached on Cell #334-669-9496. I have had many people tell me of the "attitude" expressed to member's that have gone out of their way to support the sport. Don't understand it but there is always a way to get around it and make a lot of lasting friends.

Steve, I don't know your father either. However, I will give him the respect he so richly deserves. I will go in with Rodger and help pay to get your Dad into the event at Indy. I too will be there Wed. evening, my cell is 419-236-9960. I am with HART (Honda Of America Racing Team) and my crew would like to help out as well. Let us know if we can be of any assistance. My apologies for the behavior of others.

re: Steve's father

Hey guys, both Steve, and his Dad Bud, really appreciate the response put forth from all the Comp racers, since Steve has left for Indy as of Sat. am he was in line, I 'm not sure if he has the internet, to possibly see the replies & or get in contact, with the likes of Mr. Coley, Mr. Parent or Mr. Arnold, ( sounds like a law firm!!!)...... however, I will try to get in touch with him, when we arrive and have him come by and see some of the people who replied, heck knowing Bud, he already has his ticket/pass situation well in hand.....
Nice to see that some one gives a sh!t.... not surprising actions like these coming from Comp racers....well and being selfish I'd say that Stock racers also would have the same response, right Unk!!!!:D

ungrateful

This not steve it's Bud thanks for the support but Greg is correct my good Buddies at VP have taken care of the passes. I don't think NHRA is ungrateful they just don't give a shit. Thanks again and drop by Steve's pit on thursday to monday for a canadian beer. Bud

Well Bud, glad you got it taken care of. This forum seems to bring out the best in racer's and they always want to help fellow racer's. Hope you guys have good luck next week.

Bud, I am very glad to hear your taken care of! Enjoy the race, and if you get a chance, stop by the HART trailer we would all like to meet you!

Glad to hear the folks at VP were able to help out with some passes. I’d like to believe that it’s not that they don’t care it’s just a stacking of issues causing their perceived ambivalence.

Start out with the fact that many of the people there don’t know the history of the sport or more importantly that the overwhelming majority of the racing community are family. They don’t truly understand that you’ll give a guy a part that he could use to beat you the next round. You’ll cut each other’s eyes out on the tree, and then help fix the car after that round.

Next they’re doing what we all love, and as with anything people become jaded because on days even the best job becomes a job.
Add to that the fact that they’re used to getting beat up for things. Can I have this or that, so rather than actually listen to the situation people too often just take the negative and go with it.

Hopefully we can all learn from these actions in our businesses and daily lives.

Some nice points...As racers when these situations arise, we need to stick together as a racing family and get things done for each other. I can't speak for anyone else, but I am very gald to be a part of it.
