NHRA seeks competitor input on delax boxes in Comp, Super Stock

If you wanna race off a pro tree buy a blinder so you can only see the bottom bulb and you got your self a .5 pro tree.

I run A/EA. I have a blinder.

I had not sat in a car for 4 years and my first lap was a .430 light with a Biondo long switch. Trying to slow myself down { 1 steamboat....?} puts me all over the board on reactions. I'm must be from the old west because I believe back in the gun slinging days, quick reactions were a virtue. I think quick reactions are what make good drivers good in F-1, NASCAR, CART, SCCA and blah, blah on and on. I believe quick reactions are a virtue in the pro classes. Is Comp a stepping stone to the pro classes? I'm asking, I'm new at this. If so, I think it should be just like Prostock. Welding your opponent to the tree should be a method of winning.

Cutting a fair light and knowing when to shut your car off before the finish line is odd to me. I thought this class was all about performance. It is, but it's not.

I suggested the 4 tenths pro tree but now I can see how it would be hard for the stick guys. 4 tenths full tree? ....yea. The Auto guys can use a blinder and bottom bulb it and the stick guys can use no blinder and see the tree coming.

clint - as usual you make no sense. you muss be smokin some of that stuff you referred to in one of your posts. you have not been racing comp for 33 years. you didn't even have a drivers license 33 years ago. are you trying to impress us? if you are how about entering a comp race sometime this season.

and why dont you explain to the members where do you drag race where two yellow bulbs and three amber LED lights (there are not 5 ambers) are turned on at the same time. never land? only you and michael jackson.

craig - with a delay box or on the bottom bulb?

Well Ive been around comp for 33 years and as far as Im aware, its always been a full tree(5 ambers at one time) LEAVE it alone!

Racer Rex,

Clint said he was around comp for 33 years not driving 33 years. His dad Ron and Richie Rosen had some of the baddest b/eds in the country. Now the old farts can only fish and bullshit each other on who was the best. hahaha:)

p.s. when they raced , they had 5 ambers.....those were the days

I started racing in the 70's ran ahra SS with a stick. at that time we ran a pro tree . The only good thing I can say about it was it sure was nice to get the spot but I hated to give the spot.
I feel the only place in NHRA for a pro tree is heads up only. I think there will be more red lights with a pro tree cause its tough to set and hear the motor humming spotting a car 2 seconds.
I don't race enough any more so I don't know if .400 or .500 tree would make any difference or not.

Delay Box

I Do Not Like The Idea Of Delay Box In Comp Or Ss .if You Cant Drive Stay Out Of Driver Seat..

RacerRex, On the bottom bulb.

Without going back and doing the math, I would say .040 is probably an average bottom bulb light during elim. That's about what my button is set for.

just to clarify, the idea that i had was for a .400 full tree, not a pro tree. you would still have plenty of time to bring up the motor when your top amber lights. racers who anticipate the bottom bulb coming on and leaving will always red light... no matter what. other that a bit of time in pro stock truck, we have been racing comp since 1990, red lights no fun for the fans or the racers. why not do something that would cut down on both of them? and for those of you that want to see indexes get hit more and level off the playing field, do you not think that more side by side, green light runs, would mean that more guys are going to have to run the car out in order to win?

if a guy running 50 under has to go against a guy that can run 70 under, he has to try for a great light. he will usually go red and the faster car goes clean into the next round, where he will face an opponent who had to take cic. the cic'ed driver now faces the same delima as the slower car. it snowballs, and makes comp more about luck than driving, or who has the faster car. if they were both green, the faster car has to take some index in order to get the win and move on. how bad does it suck, when you had to take index in the first 2 rounds only to meet a guy in the 3rd that is clean, because he got 2 red lights. more side by side, green light runs would do a lot for the class, and in the end make for more exiting racing. it would also mean guys that can run 70 under will have to actually run it in order to move on, which in the long run will lead to guys hitting indexes, and leveling off the field.

Well said B/AA 500...leaving the current system in place does absolutely nothing for the health of Comp for now or the future. Your suggestion is a step in the right direction for all the right reason's, primarily somewhat less red lights and Comp has to get that under control./ Yes there will still be red lights, but with your idea, maybe less and more green light racing which will as you said "trim" the indexes quicker. This will bring back the previous post of -53 under meaning something again.

And the announcer says, "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is No break out racing, 1st to the finish line wins"......not
