Let the Pro Stock teams come on over to Comp , run what ya brung in Comp . They have killed Pro Stock as it is today ........bring the money to wide open Comp , increase the prize money , bring the big money teams to Comp , Ir would be a breath of fresh air to NHRA drag-racing . Every Pro Stock combination , old and new and everything 500 cubic inch motors , fuel injected ,carbs , hood scoops or not . COMPETITION ELIMINATOR with Pro Stock at it's best .

They would have little or no interest on racing a full tree and racing for barely enough prize money to pay for fuel. After racing Pro Stock I HATE running a full tree. Most everybody in comp does too, they are just in denial. LOL... Seems everybody pretty much runs blinders to try and make the full tree as close to a pro tree as possible but if you bring up the topic of actually changing it to a pro tree (like most every other class in the NHRA has over the years) people lose their minds. And why would NHRA increase the prize money? Two things I wish comp would do, a pro tree and take .50 off all the indexes so that a "good" run is now right at your index. It would make it SOOOO much easier for the fans to understand and would not affect the comp racers at all. Ok, I'm done dreaming. Back to work...

I've worked on a couple of former Pro Stock cars that came to Comp.. one tried A/A, and the other B/AA.. NOW, I said Pro Stock cars, not Pro Stock drivers.. but they were able to compete locally, and save money, but again, the NHRA payouts don't make it worth it for their operations.. nor is it worth it for any Comp operation..

That being said, NHRA would love to be able to say that they beat Pro Stock back into the Comp ranks, cause I truly believe they want Pro Stock gone.. look at what NHRA has done to Pro Stock over the last few seasons, and it will be easy to understand why Wally Parks grave site looks more like the aftermath of an earthquake.. and NHRA admitted in several articles that the changes were an attempt to slow the class down.. more like, ruin the class.. but don't worry, folks, the factory showdown stuff will fix everything..

I can easily agree with Mark on his points, especially the blinder issue.. and if he is correct, which he is pretty close, the Pro Tree should be investigated by the SRAC and the NHRA Competition Committee.. the index issue may become a highly contested one.. first, the racers love to touch themselves while making claims to having an 80 under car, and NHRA would have to readjust everything that they put in place over the last decade, pertaining to indexes.. AND YES, y'all know it's about how far under you can say you are.. if not, why is there STILL altitude adjusted tracks??.. it's just so you can maintain your 80 under status.. do you folks realize that we can actually see when you usually run, say 7 flat, but at an adjusted track only run 7.40??.. so is the adjustment really necessary??... NO, IT'S NOT!!.. easy answer...

While I would love to see more cars come into Comp, I'm not sure the teams would actually drop back to Comp, even if the payouts were increased.. NOW, moving into Pro Mod is a different story... a question for Mark: would Pro Stock teams and drivers come back to Comp??.. I know a few former Comp guys, who moved up, that say they would never come back...

I can only speak for myself and comp for sure is not as fun as it used to be after getting to run Pro Stock. The main reason for me? The pro tree and no finish line games. First to the stripe wins and if you did not bring enough you better go home and get to work on your stuff. You knew EXACTLY where you stood against the others, no sandbagging, no saving index, a tree designed to "start" the race not end it, and first round money that's almost three times what you get if you WIN a comp race.... So I guess that you can say I doubt many who made it to PS would want to come back to comp in MY opinion. I will also say that because I'm just not having the fun I used to in comp that currently all my racing stuff is up for sale. Car, engines and trailer.

I'm actually making an effort to return to Comp for the opposite reasons as Mark. I like the full tree and there's a lot less bullshit at the stripe. Run Stock or Super Stock a bit and you'll know what I'm talking about. The only bullshit at the stripe is if you have a car faster than 60 under and how much are you willing to give up for a round win.- I don't have that problem yet and I'll worry about it then if I get that lucky. Lots of classes out there with other trees to be had, lots a fast cars do a lot of winning in comp on that 50 year old bitch - just saying. Believe it or not Comp is still the shit. It's not for the weak or timid or candy ass or cry babies that want to change shit when they can't win. If you don't have thick skin, a hard head and hate money, probably better classes to spend your time and money at. If you like working hard, spending money, going forwards and backwards at the same time and racing the best of the best, then there's a home for you in Comp - That's where I want to be. Want to make a difference in Comp?? Find a way to get your shit to the track and let it hang out. Happy New Years, Alan.

Hi Mark and Alan.. thanks for sharing your opinions from different sides of the spectrum..

Mark, I totally understand your views, especially with me coming from the Vinny Barone School of Drag Racing, where you make no deals, race to the stripe, race to win every round, and if you can't win, do damage.. and thanks for confirming my thoughts that most that have moved on, and up, from Comp, probably are not inclined to return, and for various reasons..

Alan, thanks for responding, and again showing that competitive heart that most of us already knew existed.. good luck in making a successful return to Comp, and we all know from your serious nature, that you will be a force to reckon with.. BUT, I will say this.. there continues to be a need for changes in Comp to make the class more pleasing to the fans, and more competitive for the racers.. there needs to be more racing to the stripe, and if it means index adjustments, so be it.. I have already confessed that the PI System, that I believed would work, and bring former racers back to the track, actually did more harm than good, and actually sidelined some good drivers..

Both of these guys have kind of touched on the key issues to racing in Comp, if not racing in general, and that is MONEY.. if it is cost prohibitive to break into the Pro ranks, and cost prohibitive to race, and maintain, a competitive Comp operation, WHAT CAN BE DONE??..
