Sunoco vs. VP Fuel

I'll said it once.. I said it again.. I said it again, and again, and again... AND, I'll say it again, the stuff is ABSOLUTE CRAP!!..

NOW!!.. that being said, are teams getting used to it??.. OF COURSE THEY ARE, THAT'S WHAT WE DO.. are teams getting down the track with it??.. OF COURSE THEY ARE, THAT'S WHAT WE DO.. are teams satisfied with the performance of SR-18??.. OF COURSE THEY ARE LYING TO YOU, CAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE DO.. You show me a team that will tell you the truth about anything, and I'll tell you that even they are lying...

Yes, there are a bunch of guys that believe SR-18 is OK for them, but are they on the ragged edge with their combinations??.. NO.. are they as fast as they could be, or should be??.. THEY DON'T REALLY KNOW.. if your new combination made 15 or 20 more this year on SR-18, how much better would it be on C-25.. and how much better would your on-track performance be... HMMMMMMMMM.. kinda makes ya think now, huh??

You can put up all the comparative charts that you want.. you can tell me all of the tuning stories that you want.. I've witnessed Pro Stock motors coming apart with burned pistons.. I've had trouble starting a Comp car in the staging lanes of the Gator Nationals, and I'm not alone on the issue.. many guys questioning 60ft times, bogs, misses, etc, etc.. NAH, must be the gearing, or the launch rpm, or the tires are wrong for the combination.. WOW, changed all that and the 60ft didn't change??.. how could that be??..

If you are hard of hearing, or just have no one to believe in, just take your stuff to the track and ROLL DA DICE.. ya might just be lucky.. is that what Comp racing has become now??.. A CRAP SHOOT!!

Comp Eliminator racing has been put in a bad position because of this fuel issue, in my opinion, and the wishy-washy fence sitters are not going to help solve this situation.. what you will accomplish is getting NHRA to release a statement saying that we are not all on the same page, and have no idea what we are talking about..

Now, THAT BEING SAID, how many of us have actually followed the request of Frank Aragona Jr, and have written to NHRA expressing their stories, or opinions??... HMMMMMMMMM, I hope I'm not hearing that old Simon and Garfunkel tune, THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE...

Charlie, I put the charts and the intent was asking if anyone has tried the other approved fuels in lieu of the SR18. I believe NHRA should give us the same option as other Sportsman classes, to use VP C25.

My comments were not meant to be a personal attack on anyone, but more of an extended warning..

I believe that NHRA has actually approved 2 or 3 Sunoco Race Fuels for Competition Eliminator, but SR-18 is being touted as the replacement for C-25..the others aren't even close.. but I have been told that the Sunoco Max-NOS might be safer, but with even more performance loss...

THE FIX IS SIMPLE!!

With the fuels failing tech anyway I might be trying to mix a little Max-NOS (.734 SG) to C25 (.698 SG) to get the SG up to SR-18 specs (.704)... All three fuels are yellow... Put them in your SR-18 cans...

Versus tearing up an engine... more to gain fuel tuneup consistency not for power, although it would likely go back to almost the original tune and power.

Doesnt matter.
Its still cheating. No matter the rational behind it, if you get creative with the fuel, against the specific rules, its cheating.
And yes, Im guessing people are getting creative.

Bob, has there been any word from Sunoco on the fuel issue? If they are going to continue to provide a less than ideal fuel at least make it consistent. This has really got to be counterproductive to taking over the sponsorship. Bad press, bad for business outside the classes required to use it.

last i heard, they blamed the local guy. But their own shit didnt pass, so who knows.
i dont care if they give me liquid dog shit, just give me the same shit every time, ill figure it out. It seems to have gotten slightly more consistent, but its still flaky as hell

Here's how I see the problem. Postings on here have said VP25 is synthetic and SR18 not. Synthetic has a long shelf life, SR18 not so much.
Sunoco was probably given a estimate how much fuel would be sold, they decided how much to make to meet demand but were given no numbers when most of it would be sold (not till april 2015 when season gets in full swing).
If 1st batch was made in September 2014 or before , sitting on shelf for 6 months or more not good for non-synthetic.

Unfortunately, when fuel came of Trailer at Winternationals bad, tried to bandaid it and all went downhill from there.

Who is wrong, do not know and does not matter. Solution is to recall fuel and make new fuel.

All I can think of is trying to start my lawn mower after sitting 6 months, will not run and there is varnish in gas tank.

They date stamp bread, need a way to date stamp on fuel.

Handled correctly, all race gas has a shelf life of 2 years or more. Unleaded race gas is about half that.
Race gas has to be kept tightly sealed in the darkest possible colored plastic jugs, or in metal containers, and in stable temperatures. Drums and metal cans of race fuel should always be stored on wood planks or pallets.
The sanctioning bodies may decide to just open the fuel choices to any on the accepted fuels list until things settle down. But it's more likely that they will wait for the fuel supplier to get a handle on the situation.

I dont race comp. I hope to in a year or two if my son and I can make it happen. What would be the harm with Nhra letting comp run all the different fuels offered to us in super stock? There are several VP,Sunoco, renegade,Philips 66,citco, torco, rockett, etc etc. Then people make work what's best for them. Why did Nhra right in the contract to include comp. Comp isn't a pro class. I dont understand that. I have a good friend who runs a SS/CS super stock car and he hates this 18 Sunoco stuff. Still hasn't got his engine happy yet. I guess I'm the kind of person that doesn't understand forcing racers to use a certain product. Just me I guess. Hope it all works out for you guys. Always been a huge fan of comp eliminator. Ed

NHRA is too obstinate to admit there is a problem with the Sunoco fuel.
All they need is to either put a moratorium on the Sunoco fuel until they correct the inconsistencies and allow the C25 fuel like in other Sportsman classes.

Neither NHRA or Sunoco will ever admit there is an issue with the fuel. If they admit there is a problem they will open themselves up to liability issues. It can be done without admiting anything though. Just tell us that you actually listened to our concerns and will allow the use of VP in Comp.
