To all my COMP friends,
2010 is just hours from being a memory and I wanted to take this time to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who is proud to race in Competition Eliminator. It was my distinct pleasure to be personally responsible for taking care of all of you this past year at National Events. I know it was not always pretty (the lake at Gainesville comes to mind) but it was probably the best year I have had in racing. I was fortunate to make some very dear friends and to also make lasting friendships. Economics, as we all know determines just how much racing we all get to do. You as racers have to balance family, funding, indexes, weather, and NHRA to determine just where and when you get to go meet your buddies and have some fun. I too had to face that after Al won his title in Pomona and made an extremely difficult choice to take a full time position with a dear friends company. While it tears me apart to not be riding my bike up to park you in Pomona I am equally as excited to start my new career. You will get to see me at a couple of events in 2011. At this time I am planning on working the Cajun Sportsnationals in Belle Rose, the Jeg's All-Stars in Joliet, and Indy. I am hoping to work a couple during the countdown but we will have to see how my job goes before making that determination. I can promise you that I will be much more excited to see all of you than you probably will be to see me but we will have a good time.
On another note, I want to tell you just how special those of you that went out on a limb with NHRA trying to help me get the D-2 Director's job made me feel. I think we all take for granted the connections we make while doing the job that we enjoy. I was truly overwhelmed at the response from you the COMP racers! It filled me with such pride when racers would tell me that they would come back down south to race should I get the position. You were willing to take a chance on a guy who had never actually ran a race to provide you with a fair and fun place to race and that feeling will never leave me. If there is ever a way that I can repay that faith I will gladly do it.
Now I have some of my highlights and not in any particular order.
1. Al winning your title after an awesome year! Congrats and I was happy to be a part of it.
2. Arnie for all of your efforts on my behalf and for keeping Larry around to give me a hard time.
3. Fletch just for being Fletch. God knows you have no future in being a snowplow driver! Also giving me crap about catering to Kurt Busch!
4. Vinnie and gang for always being somewhat willing to let me put all of your cars in a not big enough spot.
5. David I just want to say thanks for listening and always telling me how it is not necessarily how I wanted to hear it, hope you find that sponsor.
6. To all of the guys who always went first when I came calling.
7. The rest of you for humoring me by telling me you were on your way when your car was still on jacks!!
For 2011 I wish you all health, happiness, green lights, no index hits, win lights, and continued friendships both on and off the track. I can assure you I will be watching the internet and reading Dragster following all of your rounds. You will all be missed more than you know!
Good luck to all!
