The New Guy, Part 3: Pro Stock Pete.

That is pretty interesting.. I would like to hear some input from the people supplying Pro Stock with carburetors, and if they have a leg up on providing the newly adopted induction systems.. does this help them, or hurt them??

I'm not going to try to take any wind out of Pro Stock Pete's sails, but I remain concerned with what he is going to do for the Sportsman racers.. the new TV deal on a major network is great, since today I could watch Lucas Oil dirt track truck racing on one major channel, and global road racing on another major channel.. but does the new deal include Sportsman racing??..

Wanna make a change, Pete??.. how about you CHANGE Comp Eliminator back to a VP C-25 usable class.. just sayin'...

If the P/S teams have to use the new Sonoco fuel and have adapted to it, then why can't the comp teams adapt to it? Or it just a select few? And it seems that the H/EA has adapted to it quite well, wouldn't you say?

What's good for Pro stock should be good for Comp. Make FI and methanol. Port injectors 1 per runner and 4 hole throttle body restricted as well. Sunoco makes methanol and still gets their pie they paid for.

Yeah - that ought to increase participation..........

The throttle body has no injectors. Bores measure the same way they do now. Make the rule as one injector per cylinder. Put it any where you want. Needs work I know but a lot of drag racing has gone alcohol. I Have used it and pump/pill/jet FI for the past 4 years and would never go back to a carb or gas. Comp is dieing and no one wants to change. Youth is loosing interest in NHRA racing.

Kinda figured they would drop a few races to help out!

Will probly see some botched burnouts now and then.

The intake/inlet air will be the hardest part of efi- but it will get figured out fast..

Rev Limiter is gonna be a thorn in the ol azz for some teams for a bit!

Letting everyone see in is probly bothering some more than any other change ...............

But making the decal go on the car-- come on---lol ....:D

What more could you want Rick besides like 100 different classes to choose from, many of which you can already run EFI or carbs?? That's not enough choice, somehow we need even more options?? The issue today is the economy and the fact that kids growing up today don't have the will or ability to Hot Rod cars like when I was growing up - those are the things that lead to both drag racers and drag racing fans. Not Lap Tops, smart phones, no more shop classes in schools etc., etc. Times are changing - period - and it has nothing to do with comp needing more change!!

I'm curious to see if there will limitations on throttle body configurations and sizes, as well as number of injectors. This throws the tuners into a whole new ball game. EFI is vastly different than carbs.

Unless they are going to allow VERY tall cowl hoods it looks like they are leaning towards one big throttle body that would mount on the front of the intake facing forward...

From what we have learned it takes 16 injectors to match carbs for peak power. 8 in the runners and 8 in the plenum. Now that is with two 4 hole throttle bodies mounted where the carbs were and the top 8 injectors spraying right under the throttle blades. Most of the fuel is injected by the ones in the runners and the top ones only do a little bit.

I for one wish they would have made a 1 year deal where you had the choice of carbs or EFI.... Would have been cool to see the two go head to head. I also think the scoops should stay.

You don't need more classes. Comp has had to many for a long time. Run FI or a carb, Gas or methanol. Mechanical FI doesn't need a lap top. I agree most young people don't have the ability. Where will comp be with out new customers? Like it or not this is the new economy. The old economy has pulled so far forward it almost went off the cliff, it's not coming back and the new money doesn't like the old ways. Just my opinion.

What is the reason for the injectors in the plenum?

Regarding the future of hot rodding, I thought it was dying too until I went to a Street Car Takeover event a couple weeks ago. There were hundreds of cars, and people looking at them, and 90% of them were under 30. The cars were almost exclusively street cars, with EFI, turbos, and anything with a LS swap. With modern electronics, they don't need a strip to get ET's or MPH, and they race on the street in meet-ups coordinated online. Safety is not much of a concern to them. IMO moving PS to EFI is a step in the right direction, but it may be too late.

LOL, Fast 1... YEAH, they got a handle on the Sunoco, if they are actually using the Sunoco... and that's all I'm saying about that...

I hear Brogdon sold out, is this the first casualty of the upcoming rules or something that was already planned?

I think Brogdon has been teetering for awhile, he sold all of his stuff to Freeman. I read on another board that the word coming out of Denver is Comp is next for some changes, anybody else hear anything?

Nunzio Valerie Jr.

There were some behind the scenes stuff going on with the Brogdon / Kent deal from what I've heard.. I don't think we can blame the changes in this case, but wouldn't rule it out completely...

I haven't heard much about changes to Comp lately.. I think that guys making, at least, vocal efforts to get cars to the races may have had an impact on NHRA's thought process, for the time being.. not that Comp is not still on the table..

Kinda sucks when the fly on the wall doesn't have bigger ears.. LOL!!..

The sr18 still sucks compared to c25. I lost half a season because of that stuff. Its a tenth slower than c25 in my car. I have learned a ton about the petrol we are forced to use now.
