I was looking in my 2008 NHRA rule book & noticed that for Top Fuel & Funny Cars, NHRA allows a + or -1 degree tolerance for valve angle specs. Isn't that strange that NHRA allows the tolerance for these classes & not B/ND. I am not looking for another debate on this issue, I just wanted everyone to know that tolerances DO exist. I guess that is some of the differences between Pros & Sportsman.

Hey Bubba:
There is a small difference. They give you a valve angle and give you plus or minus 1 degree. They gave you a degree (23) plus or minus 3 degrees. No comparision. They get 1 degree you get three.

Oh no, please, not another debate about Chevy valve angles. How many have we had, three or four? This issue has been settled.

I belive that they should recheck your heads after the trip this past weekend 450.00 dollars could come in handy.Word on the street is the tech man that checked Craig`s heads was drunk. He could have been checking too many alcohol jugs.

Good point Charlie. I am going to Atlanta this weekend & I could use the extra money for fuel. I do have 1 head that hadn't been pulled yet, so maybe, just maybe...... Of course how do I find some more money giving competitors. HaHa!!!!

Careful

Hey, Comp Racers, it's discusssions like this that probably make the NHRA people look at Top Dragster and Top Sports man as an attractive alternative

You can run, for example, a Pro Stock Cobalt in Comp, but does it dimensionally match my friend Randy Jones Hansen-built Cobalt that came off a CAR LOT? Really doubtful.

This whole deal about the Austin/Bantam body specs is another example- I'm gonna protest your illegal SIXTY EIGHT year old body dimensions if you protest MY 26/23 degree heads.

The way I see it Craig don`t need to fudge . It is about time and money Craig has to do all of his own work at night after a long day at a auto repair shop.If you have ever worked at a auto repair shop you know hard a job it is . He was given the ok from NHRA and 1 man started saying his stuff was not legal. We knew he was going to be fast we know that when we show up at a race at div 4 we can`t beat him without help from the cic gods. But that`s what makes comp fun . I cant belive that 1 deg will change anything except a lot of time wasted and money wasted for nothing.

The fact is that the rules are the rules and everyone has to follow them.. You are given a tolerance and must stick to it weather or not the 1 degree would make any difference in performance doesn't matter at all.. Craig is going to be fast regardless.. The fact is the lower limit is 20 degrees so that makes 19.9 Degrees illegal.. The rule book also says you have to run a 2 layer fire suit, But a 1 layer is only 1 layer less so it should be ok right?? NOT LIKELY..

Now I'm not saying that Craig is a bad guy for it or anything. I like Craig very Much. Simple mistake more than likely.. But the rules are the rules simple as that..

Just the point Craig is making. The head was aproved by NHRA and so is the body on Raymon`s race car even though it looks nothing like the car that they call it. What if they came up next week and said we need to change the body on all these cars to make them look like the orignal.

I suppose but the rule book gives a specific degree on the heads it's not hard to understand that. There are no such spec's for the bodies.. Infact the rules for our bodies are so rediculously out of date they still state how much you can Channel a body over the frame. As if we are still running Square frames..

I think we should get passed this head thing....... but what are the body tolerances???....... remember back when there were those 7/8 scale Cutlasses???........ I think Rampy and Nickens each had one....... were they legal or did they sneak in under the "ALTERED" interpretation.......

Just wondering....... I tried to get my 27 aero roadster into Comp some years back in an Econo-Altered class, but they wouldn't let that fly....... I got the idea when Nickens ran C/A in a 34 Roadster.......

Not to change the subject or anything......... LOL

Back in those days they didn`t have this comp fourm .If somebody did that now it would at least 20 or 30 comp racer and comp fans posting .It would get ugly quick and that is one of the good thing about this fourm.
