All this talk about 60' times... How important is it? Is it more important to have a faster 60'-330' time? Ive seen some pretty suspect 60', with some pretty stout 1/4 mile ets... Please educate me.

    Thanks Chad Perkin

The trick isn't the convertor, the trick is in gear ratios and power application to the ground. Like all the Pro Stock guys are telling me, they aren't making insane gains in horsepower, with maybe the exception of Edwards. They are finding ways to put more bite in the cars with maybe 5 more hp. Look at the 60 foot times this year so far at good tracks with even semi-decent air.

We have always had to manage the 60' with this car (hang on to the limiter) or it's just an animal show. The very 1st hit we made on this car was 1.00 , but the left turn was too great, now 100's of runs later, more often than not, slowing the 60' (with more tire speed) picks up the 330. If you bog and pick up the 60', it's slower everywhere , except the 60, if you spin and pick up the 60 it's plenty faster everywhere.

Maybe that explains it, somewhat, but the bottom line is that D/AA going .989 is in a league of it's own. There's no bogging going on over there.....

I am probably wrong but I have always been led to believe that you can set the car up to 60' OR you can set it up for the best et @ the 1/4----now I understand you want a good 60' but you might just be able to 60' pretty good and have a great 1/4 ET--- my understanding is most cars cannot have both ---look at Greg Anderson---Does anybody really think he is a thousand percent better than any other pro stock team out there??? He might be, but he has perfected a way to get the car to leave great and then about mid track he really motors on down the track---Nobody in 3 or 4 years has been able to match his success at ANY track until just recently(ala Mike Edwards)--do not forget he worked for Warren Johnson for quite some time and after he left they(WJ & Kurt) were lost and he (Anderson) just started running away from everybody--Charlie Greco has surrounded himself with talented people that understand how to make a car leave and run great numbers at the other end too---I'm not saying everybody can do it but it probably is in everybodys car you are just going to have to figure out how to make it run the numbers---Charlie did , Mike did, Greg did so it can be done--- Dick

You're right. With these N/A motors, you have to keep them up where they make power. If you pull it below your main powerband, you may as well stab the clutch and coast the rest of the way. But look at the silly ass Blown Pro Mod's. 1.02-1.09 60's and will still run 3.80's to the 660, but they punish the crap out of their clutches to do it.

Anyone here can probably run a little faster than they already do on their clutch, but your clutch will need a lot more looking after by running it on the edge.

    Arnie,

That was and is Don Ness's rule of going fast....get it up on the tire sooner and the rest will take care of itself...

This whole slower 60', faster 330, has got to point at the radial tire benefit or at least, the tire design will play a big part in finding the fastest combo....which begs the question, what tires are on that D/AA?

There is a tenth in the guard beam! Trust me I know. I went 1.02 at Tucson, AZ in my D/A at 2410 lbs. fixed the problem and went 1.12 next pass and slowed down .08 at the finish line and had the same MPH. I bet when he does it a 2" pipe couldn't go underneath.

Is there not a standard beam height? Chris, when you said, "fixed the problem" are you referring to your car or the height of the lights? From 1.02 to 1.12 by changing the height by how much?

As far as the D/AA .989 that started this thread, if the beam height is the reason, then everyone else at the race would be producing crazy fast 60', in all the classes. No, I think they got something going over there, in the Greco camp, and we all need to figure it out

It was my car. Everyone knows you have to have a 3" nose height which mine at that time did. What you also have to have is 2" from the spindle center 12" back. If a car doesnt it gains a bunch of roll out, which a guard beam is supose to protect and keep the sport in line as I say. But there is still a tenth lurking between there. When it happened to me it took me three different runs to pin point what had happened. The first time I brushed it off, the next time was in elimnations and the car picked up a tenth and I was a tenth late because of it "trade off". I asked NHRA tech about it in Tucson points race last year and they looked at me like I was stupid. At Topeka nationals in May last year they were sliding a 2" pipe under the cars as they went over the scales and telling people to rasie there cars or tighen the engine diapers.

    Thank you Chris

About time someone (Chris, that is) injected some sense into this thread. Does anyone remember the incident with B/AA getting index back a while back because one guys diaper was hanging down and his 60 time was ridiculous so they threw out the run? This stuff happens. And I remember the pipe deal at Topeka, we all got tested and I know of a few that were too low.
Plain, pure, and simple a D or E car does not and will not go sub 1.00 in 60 feet. To take nothing away from Charlie and the guys. I've talked with them and they work as hard or harder than the next team, but this has gone too far. The PS boys were barely running those numbers at Brainerd last week, and Reading this week.
This has almost become comical to watch. Let's just all go racing and forget about what someone else's time slip says. As we all know, time slips are flawless. (enter sarcasm here :D )

The unbelievable 60' for the D/AA is the reason for this thread, Matt, so your explanation of the diaper, 2" problem, is the 1st answer that makes sense. On that same thought, there have been some rather qualified people that have responded to this thread and they believe it is real.

It seems incredible, that the whole fooling the timers with the under 2" interference, would not of been the 1st response to this sub 1.00 for a D car. I think Greco and the boys would want to know this also, if after doing it at different tracks and running -70 under, that the whole reason is bogus.
