Within the past year many of you indicated that it was a tough class, no one will even try it, give the index back a dime, etc..

I'd like to hear comments from some of the same people now.

Should NHRA give some index back???

I cut and pasted a few of the comments below:

*b/nd - too tough

*the B/ND index is a tough one......... I thought that NHRA's intention by making this class was to make it inviting to racers that like the A/ND class but didn't have the bucks for the really trick stuff

*I'd have to agree all around The B/ND index is going to be a tough one.

*the B/ND class index is harder than it may look especially considering it's a new class

*the B/ND might not be affected as much because of the injection, but in my opinion NHRA made the index a bit tight for a new class

*what's the 5 toughest indexes? ....Looks like the preseason talk was right... hardly any takers on B/ND.

*Nobody has built a B/ND this year to my knowledge because the index NHRA gave out was too stiff.

*guess I won't build that B/ND after all

*p.s. Now lets see if NHRA will give b/nd five or ten

*look at C/T its still to tough an index and it never has been given any index back. B/ND might be in that same boat .

*One reason we didn't build an A/ND this year. Maybe a B/ND if NHRA will look at the index.

*I seem to Recall people saying that the B/ND index at 7.80 was too hard at the beginning of the year will Carter just went 7.07 so I guess it must not be too tough

I didn't mean this to be a bash B/ND thread, but the B/ND case can spark discussion about new indexes in general.

Just like just about every new class that NHRA has come up with in the last 10 years, the new indexes are VERRRRRRRY forgiving for any racer who puts a reasonable effort into it. Guys who run the old classes (A thru F dragster, A thru E econo dragster, non-AT Super Modified, A thru D Econo Altered, ........) have to struggle with old, tired, beat up, indexes and can't hold a candle to the new classes (until the new class indexes get under control, which is usually takes about 2 or 3 years).

I don't have a problem with new classes, but I think that NHRA should have a committee consisting of two comp. drivers/owners from each division (elected by the drivers/owners) to discuss any and all new indexes and non-CIC index adjustments. The committee should meet twice a year (via conference call, emails, chat room, etc.) to review indexes.

In a perfect world, all 32 qualifiers would run -0.50 under (or the field would be separated by no more than ~0.07).

B/ND has been around for awhile as junior fuel B . They have had many well constructed cars with very capable people tuning them and the norm was 7.20s and .30s with a few running 7 teens in good air. I think NHRA was looking at that and the index according to those numbers were hard. But I guess the Eaton Group has a good combo going.

Although now it appears that the index is down .04 so far!
Craig, Carter just went -64 @ 164 mph. What could his mph be.....190? I'd have to say there is some serious Rick Waters HP between those frame rails. It's hot at Brainerd, not exactly go fast conditions.

b\nd, it probably is a tough index for someone who just started running in the nostalgic class. But Dean has been at it for quite sometime in A. He`s no dummy!!!!!!!!!! p.s. Just wait till Craig runs his, should be mean!!!!!!!!!!

Make that .05 for Carter so far. Kaplan also hit his .05, and Aragona is set-up to hit his too.

When Carter is done, B/ND may have a tough index, but it didn't start-out with one.

As one who thought this index was tough, it was only for those who did not get power from Eaton. In the final Dean Carter ran .665 under the new index (come tomorrow) at only 170.

BTW, if any of you think that Carter willl be able to win the championship with a soft index, you're wrong. Even if Dean were to win all of the remaining races he can earn points at, including Indy, the greatest number of points he can earn is 663. With his runner-up today, Frankie Aragona already has 664. If I were Carter, I'd put that car in the box for the rest of the year.

If I were him, I would put it in the box also. At least until he can finish line race a little better. I wonder who is mad at him the most, the other B/ND drivers or his Dad!

Carter's B/ND

After the event NHRA had Ray Carter take my heads [on loan to Dean] off Dean's car to check valve angle, bore & stroke, injector size, wiring and other stuff. It all checked-out. Valve angle is 20.5*[which NHRA allows 3* angle milling], 402.9 ci on a claimed 403. But I'm still not happy about losing .08 on the index. Comp is tuff even in Brainerd Minn.

Dave , Did you forget the 64 car field at Indy. I have Carter with 674 points if he wins the last three races. But all Frankie has to do is improve on a second round finish at a divisional for 675. It would take someone running the table at their last races to beat Frankie.IMHO

Greg

Frankie has to make the final at one of his two divisional races in order to gain anymore points. He would be replacing his 63 points from the Va. points race.

If Eaton wins one of his last two divisionals he would pass Frankie if Frankie doesn't gain any more.

Greg, You are correct-that's what I got, when I looked over the total again! Must be 60 approaching that is causing declining math skills. Please don't let Lee or Al know.

B/nd

I looked in the rule book...and whats the differance between A/ND & B/ND
its says ...NHRA accepted heads in B...same weight...what am i missing?

B/ND has to be a 23 degree head with a smaller round injector , not the "new" rotary type.
