3 Sunoco fuels accepted for Comp : Maximal , SR18 , MaxNos . The baseline DC @ 60F ( whatever that is ) varies a lot from C25 :

SR18 -.9

MaxNos .2

Maximal -.85

VP C25 -1.70

If the DC @ 60f is the measuring stick , the burn rate or the octane is 1/2 as good or twice as fast......the other classes are allowed to use VP , why would Comp be singled out ? Makes no sense.....

Its not about the sense (cents), its about the dollar$$!

And this may just be the start. Give it a season or two to build and get their foot in the door. You know its not for the good of the racer, just about dollars and no sense….

Do any of you think it would do any good to start a petition to at least allow us to use up what we have left of C-25?

Our team for instance has at least a drum and a half left we'd like to use up. I'm sure VP wouldn't take the full drum back, and I can guarantee you they wouldn't take the half used drum back.

Personally we think this entire dilemma is BS, this is a sportsman class, why are they putting this burden on us?

This isn't pro stock, some of us do race on a budget and don't have endless money to burn up on the dyno and test all winter.

Step up SRAC reps, please!

The Cultreras.

In my Honest opinion forcing Sportsman classes to run a single fuel from a single supplier is complete and utter BULLSHIT, Excuse my French. If it's on the accepted fuels list I should be able to run it.

I'd be happy to start an online petition, Any suggestions on the wording?

Steve,

I am not quite sure why you are upset about using a single supplier all the sudden. VP was the only acceptable supplier before Sunoco. You have the same situation you just had but a different supplier.

I understand that everyone is upset about the fuel change, especially the folks that have purchased VP in bulk. I am quite sure that the change was made because it made financial sense to NHRA. NHRA is not going to change their mind or possibly disrupt there current deal.

The only reason im for it is if anybody was cheating with c/25 and additives it will take them a litlle bit of time to figure it out JMO

If the info on the street is correct, this is a 10 year deal between Sunoco and NHRA.. is that right??

I know that Maximal has been tested by some reputable SG racers in D1, and it seems fine, or at least very close to the C-14 and C-14+..

But we're talking a different animal when dealing with Comp.. it may not be a comfortable transition from fuel to fuel.. I think NHRA should make some allowances through the 2015 season by allowing C-25 to be used..

Like Cultrera Racing said, there are a bunch of teams out there that made big purchases, and are now stuck with unusable fuel, that is if they can't find a buyer for their reserve... I'm not sure that NHRA took this into proper consideration.. just sayin'...

But in all honesty, this change was no secret.. we knew VP was being replaced, probably for cash reasons, but we knew it was coming and would not be changed.. LET'S JUST RACE!!!

Is Comp the only sportsman class that gets fuel check ? Doesn't SuperStock and Stock get fuel checked if they set a record ? Definitely a conflict if they do get checked as they are still allowed to use VP . If they are not checked , the records set are with any fuel you can get your hands on ?

Facts/Disappointments

Steve,

Mike's right. It's about the money. I have no idea if this is true, but I keep hearing that Sunoco paid $3M more than VP to be the official fuel. Here's what I do know: (1) On May 5, 2014, NHRA put out a press release stating that Sunoco would be the official fuel of HNRA for 10 years beginning in 2015; (2) Along with the top blow up cars, Sunoco would be the only acceptable spec fuel for Pro Stock, Pro Stock Bikes and Comp; (3) Compton and Light conduct a telephonic conference call and Graham Light, in relevant part, states that Sunoco has "many different blends. The blends are very, very close in specifications to what's currently out there. We don't see any problems with the conversion from the current spec fuel to the Sunoco product. The product is available."; (4) On May 8, 2014, (at least on the Division 3 website) NHRA provides info on Sunoco Race Fuel's Master Distributors in the US; and (5) All year, rumors (perhaps hopeful) believed that VP would be acceptable for use in 2015.

I think this addresses a number of questions or gripes (only I'm my opinion) that will fall upon deaf ears at NHRA. Now let me tell you what really, really pisses me off. I've been told that the attributes of SR18 vs. C25 may be very close and can be overcome (whether better or worse) by a good tuner. Awesome, my C/SM car will be happy. But wait - I'm the dumbshit that spent better than $200k to build a new CC/A pro charged car that an independent fuel engineer at GM (after looking at the published specs of C16 vs. MaxNOS) simply smiled and said "Good Luck". Please prove me wrong, but I'm pretty sure no one was looking after me when they "didn't see any problems with the conversion."
