Split Tree..... .500 full / .400 Pro Take Your Pick

(I sent this message To Mark Wolfe..... in May of 2009)

Split Tree ...... .500 Full Tree / .400 Pro tree is the real answer.... It has existed in the Compulink software since about 2005.

The time on the rev limiter is the same as today..... no change.... read my post.... Think it through.

2009 message :

"Check out the threads and posts under my name on the member list, on this site. I posted quite a bit of info. on this subject. I also sent you a private e-mail through this site.

I was racing Top Gas. when NHRA introduced the .500 Pro tree at the Super Nationals, Ontario, CA. in the Fall of 1970. It was changed to the .400 pro tree for the next race at Pomona in February 1971. The goal was to reduce red lights in the pro classes and the .400 Pro tree worked, red lights were significantly reduced.

I went all through this in the past. The info. in my previous posts and threads on this site is still right on. I sent two years worth of reaction time data to Len Embrogno. He left NHRA and didn't do anything with it.

The poll I ran on this site did get more in favor changing the tree than I had remembered.... it was 35 % in favor of the split tree change. I am not sure if everyone fully understood what I was trying to present.

It is possible that number of racers in favor of a tree change is even greater today.

I still maintain that a .500 full / .400 pro...split tree is the ultimate answer for comp. It meets everyone's requirements. No one is at a disadvantage.

Those that can't or don't want to make a .400 pro tree work for them, can use the existing .500 full tree. For them it is business as usual.

The quicker reacting cars can have their .400 pro tree and the number of red lights will be reduced. Each lane is totally separate, the same as today. Time on the rev. limiter is the same, no change from today.

The future tree of choice will become the .400 pro tree except for a small % of racers with very slow reacting car / driver combinations. ( do you know of anyone currently running a .400 Pro tree that would like to go back to the .500 full tree? )

In past years, Pro stock had 50% of the red lights experienced on comp. The numbers were roughly 15% pro stock red, 30% comp red. It appears that the comp. red light % is increasing. It sure did today.

Computech software has had the split tree feature since 2005.

All we have to do is put a "P" or "PRO" after our car number, for those that want to use the .400 Pro tree, and the timing tower crew does the rest, at the same time they set up our index for each run. The racers in comp without the "Pro" designator will have the same tree as today.

The split tree software is in place........ Comp. Racers........ lets use it. "

Split Tree Use

The split tree is used for a snowmobile / motorcycle bracket eliminator at Spokane raceway in 2013. The use is to accommodate the reaction times of vastly different vehicles........ Sounds a bit like comp..... : )

I would need to contact the Compulink Rep. to find out current split tree applications. I talked to him in 2008. I misplaced his Phone # for the moment. I believe he was located in Renton WA.

Dave Schaffel, our Division 6 tech. guy might be able to help us on that one.

Pacific Raceway Motorcycle bracket uses split tree

The 7.0 and slower motorcycle bracket race at Pacific Raceways uses the split tree.

this is their rule :

13.6 Split Tree: The motorcycle class uses a split tree system. Riders can choose either a .500 full tree or a .400 pro tree for eliminations. Riders wishing to receive a .400 pro tree must have a P displayed next to their dial-in (ex. 9.05P). The riders wishing to receive a .400 pro tree will see a minus sign (-9.05) on the scoreboard. DO NOT STAGE YOUR BIKE UNLESS YOU HAVE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE RECEIVING THE CORRECT TREE. There will be no re-runs do the wrong tree being run.

Do you know if the Motorcycle/snowmobile do the "P" to designate what type of tree they want? If so sounds like it would satisfy all racers, even the A/Dragster guy who would not have to sit on his 2 step.

I will go back to a earlier comment, I believe this helps drivers that have cars that are very expensive to take out and practice.

Complicated Eliminator would take another shot with dual trees , for all the right reasons a pro tree would be more inline with 2014 , but Comp has little to do with 2014 , we are a class from the roots of drag-racing and still are , there is no fixing it , it is what it is.....
