Thinkin bout a friend tonite...

Jeremy tell your dad he is in Great hands. That is a great hospital group there in Houston. There are several Methodist Hospitals in Houston so if you could let us know when and where we can send get well wishes and also when it is ok to visit. I am down there all the time and would want to do so but would only do it if it was ok as I know they do limit visitors for this type of issue. Tell Charlie we will all be saying a prayer for him and he's got to get back soon to protect that free nickel.

As of a couple minutes ago I was told that Pops is currently riding over in the ambulance to the Methodist Hospital. There was an issue during the ambulance loading when they switched him to a different oxygen supply. This new supply of oxygen didn't take very well with him and an immediate request for another oxygen supply from the hospital was made. The new oxygen supply was installed and all was fine. Must have been a lower oxygen content. Not sure. All I know is that he's on his way and is most likely there now.

As of this morning it has been told to us that Pops is being evaluated in the Methodist Hospital. What is noted as being called an "Eckbar" (unsure of spelling) machine is what was installed which is a very sophisticated new machine that places a small tube into his neck area. It isn't a trachea device I'm being told.

If unsuccessful, the next and most extreme method of breathing support would be an endotracheal intubation, which means that a tube will be traced down the windpipe so that oxygen and airflow will be essentially a direct shot just as a nitrous fogger nozzle does on the backside of an intake valve. At least that's the way I understand it. However, since intubation would be the most extreme method of oxygen supply, and will substantially lead to lung function loss altogether, it will certainly be a last resort.

Additionally, it is also being suggested by the representative doctor that he be sedated.

He has a nurse at the foot of his bed at all times from what we are told. Visitation hours and procedures are very different than that of the VA Hospital. For one, there are four time windows throughout the day that he can have visitors. Secondly, as I'm told, such visitation is for immediate family members only. While I do not fully agree with this second fact, I do understand the Hospital's desire to limit the risk of infection as much as possible.

hope your out & about soon, praying for the whole family

As of late yesterday evening Pops has been recovering from a heart procedure. When he was tested, as preliminary to performing a lung transplant, it was found that there existed a blockage in one of his heart valves. The team of doctors decided that before a lung transplant was undergone that it was best to install a splint to relieve the blockage first. Therefore, it will be a longer wait until a lung transplant is performed.

Just got word that Pops will be getting a trachea breathing tube put in to help him breathe better. He is healing from the heart surgery of which he had three blockages, and all of the blockages were removed.

Late update.

Visited Pops this past Saturday. He was heavily sedated, but was certainly coherent. He didn't seem pale by no means. Just in a sedated or "dreamy" state. We told him that we'd go see him after Friday's qualifying run this Friday in Baytown.
